Matt Williams

Matt Williams- is a Christchurch  based sculptor working in both metal and stone

Matthew’s passion for architecture and design can clearly be seen in his work. Working with a range of both natural and manmade materials he explores form in its fundamentality. Strong lines and sweeping curves create a mesmerising quality. The movement is dynamic and the expression is clear. Matthew started woodturning when he was sixteen. Within a year he had produced his own brand of wood craft. After working in London for several years as a model maker, he was offered a position in Dubai. During his time in Dubai his work was brought on to a majlis project for the crown prince of Dubai and two pieces were bought for the internal collection. In June 2008 Matthew again decided to relocate and this time he chose to move to New Zealand. Since then Matthew has been re-establishing himself as an artist and has pieces in several galleries in Auckland and has sold pieces to The Kauri Museum in the far north. He has pieces in collections in Dubai, UK, Canada and New Zealand. Matthew works in all sizes and is willing to undertake commissions.
